WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT CROSSFIT? 
CROSSFIT HAS TAUGHT ME SO MANY THINGS ABOUT MY BODY, MY ABILITIES AND HOW MUCH YOUR LIFE CAN CHANGE THROUGH EXERCISE. I’VE LEARNED HOW TO WORK MY BODY IN A WAY I NEVER HAVE BEFORE. I’VE GAINED ABILITIES THAT I HAVE NEVER THOUGHT HUMANLY POSSIBLE (LIKE HANDSTAND PUSH UPS!) AND CONTINUE TO KEEP STRIVING FOR MORE! AND CROSSFIT AND OUR BOX ESPECIALLY, IS A FAMILY. WE TRAIN TOGETHER, CHEER EACH AND EVERY PERSON ON (NOT JUST THE PERSON WHO FINISHES FIRST), LAUGH AND CRY TOGETHER, AND MAKE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US STRONGER BY DOING EVERYTHING WE DO, TOGETHER. CROSSFIT HAS A MENTALITY THAT I’VE NEVER SEEN WITH ANY OTHER GYM OR SPORT AND THE PEOPLE IT PUTS OUT ARE TRULY AMAZING. I AM PROUD TO BE A CROSSFIT ATHLETE. 

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO KEEP COMING BACK TO THE GYM EACH DAY?
WHEN I WALK INTO THE GYM, I LEAVE THE REST OF THE WORLD BEHIND. IT’S MY STRESS RELIEF. NOW DON’T GET ME WRONG, I MAY GET STRESSED OUT IN MY OWN WAY IN THE GYM WHEN I CAN’T GET A MOVEMENT, OR DO A WOD AS FAST AS I WOULD OF LIKED, BUT IT’S NOT THE DAY TO DAY STRESS OF THE WORLD. I ALSO LOVE THE PROGRESS I HAVE MADE, INSIDE AND OUT. I’VE NEVER LOOKED LIKE I DO NOW, I’VE NEVER BEEN AS CAPABLE AS I AM CURRENTLY, AND I HAVE NEVER LOVED MYSELF LIKE I DO NOW. CROSSFIT HAS PLAYED A HUGE PART IN ALL OF THAT, WHICH KEEPS ME GOING BACK. 


WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR GOALS WITH CROSSFIT?
MY CURRENT SHORT TERM GOALS ARE INCREASING MY ABILITIES ON THE PULL-UP BAR; STRICT PULL UPS, KIPPING PULL UPS, TOES TO BAR. 
MY LONG TERM GOAL IS TO CONTINUE TO STICK WITH CROSSFIT AS LIFE CONTINUES TO CHANGE, I GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE, GET A JOB, ETC.

How long have you been doing CrossFit?
1 YEAR ON July 10th 

What made you start CrossFit?
I knew I needed to do something to get healthy & start to feel good about myself, I certainly didn’t think it was going to be CrossFit.  2 good friends of ours have been doing it for 5+ years and were coming to Kal-El when they opened and wanted us to try it out TOO. 

Describe your first experience at Kal-El CrossFit
I was excited but mortally terrified. I had never been to any gym, ever in my life. I have always been super self conscious and couldn’t stand the idea of working out in a group of people who had been doing this for years, while I had no idea what I was doing. When we got there and I saw the members in person, I wanted to turn around and run. They all looked amazing. But their arms were wide open and all had smiles on their faces, eager to help. The coaches, the members, everyone. The only person who made me feel like an outcast was me. I don’t remember what the first WOD was I did because I’m pretty sure I was too busy hurting all over and trying to catch my breath between every movement, yet afterwArds I had this high I had never felt before that made me know I’d be coming back for more. 

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT KAL-EL CROSSFIT?
SOME MAY SAY I’M BIASED BECAUSE KAL-EL IS ALL I KNOW, BUT I LOVE MY BOX! ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT KAL-EL IS THE DRIVE OF THE COACHES AND MEMBERS. OUR PROGRAMMING AND TRAINING CAN BE TOUGH, 99.99% OF THE TIME, BUT WE GET IT DONE, AND ARE BETTER ATHLETES FOR IT. 



WHAT IS SOMETHING YOUR FELLOW ATHLETES DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU? 
I LOVE DISNEY MOVIES, ESPECIALLY THE LITTLE MERMAID. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO DISNEY WORLD AND ONE OF MY DREAM VACATIONS IS TO GO THERE, EVEN AS AN ADULT! 

WHAT IS YOUR MOST FAVORITE MOVEMENT/WOD?
MY FAVORITE BARBELL MOVEMENT IS A CLEAN, I ENJOY THE MOVEMENT ALONE OR IN A WOD. 
MY FAVORITE MOVEMENT IS THE BOX JUMP. IT WAS ONE OF THOSE TERRIFYING MOVEMENTS, SO ONCE I COULD ACCOMPLISH IT, IT’S BEEN VERY SATISFYING EVER SINCE. 

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE MOVEMENT/WOD? 
MY LEAST FAVORITE BARBELL MOVEMENT WOULD BE THRUSTERS. 
MY LEAST FAVORITE MOVEMENT WOULD PROBABLY BE BURPEES, BUT I’M NOT SURE THAT I KNOW TOO MANY PEOPLE THAT ENJOY THEM! 

WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU SEEN IN YOURSELF SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT? 
I HAVE CHANGED OUTSIDE OBVIOUSLY. GOING FROM NO EXERCISE REGIMENT AND A POOR DIET, TO A HIGH INTENSITY EXERCISE LIKE CROSSFIT AND A HEALTHY DIET IT’S MADE A HUGE IMPROVEMENT. I LOOK BETTER BECAUSE I’M HEALTHIER. I DON’T GET OUT OF BREATH DOING SIMPLE TASKS LIKE I WOULD BEFORE. I ALSO HAVE CHANGED THE WAY I FEEL INSIDE, I’VE FINALLY STARTED TO LIKE WHO I AM. I KNOW I AM WORKING HARD EVERY DAY. I LOVE THE WOMAN I HAVE BECOME. WHEN I STARTED I “WASN’T AN ATHLETE” LIKE I TOLD BRETT OVER AND OVER. TODAY, IS BEG TO DIFFER. 

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE INTERESTED IN STARTING OR SOMEONE JUST GETTING STARTED WITH CROSSFIT?
FIRST OFF, DO IT. TAKE THE CHANCE. AS SCARY AS IT MAY BE, NO MATTER HOW MUCH CONFIDENCE YOU MAY LACK, CROSSFIT WILL HELP CHANGE THAT FOR YOU, I PROMISE. CROSSFIT IS NOT A PLACE OF JUDGEMENT OR CRITICISM. IT’S A PLACE FOR GROWTH, FAMILY, HEALTH, AND SELF LOVE.
